Shifting Our Attitude To Shift The World
The longer I live, the more I realize how much impact attitude has on people’s lives—especially those who hold hate in their heart and mind.
Look at how the hateful rhetoric that some of our leaders use influences our thinking and attitude to control us, leading followers to do and say things that are truly harmful and could lead to violence.
A person’s attitude is more important than education. It’s more important than money, circumstances, failures, successes, appearance, or skill. It’s especially more important than what others think, say, or do. The attitude of everyone involved will make or break a company, a church, a home—or a country.

The change starts by shifting our focus. Once people start focusing on real issues instead of gossip and self-interest, and begin to truly listen, public attitude will start to shift. The silent majority will wake up, take pride in their actions, and get involved to help everyone—not just themselves. Helping others is the best way to change our attitude. In turn, our collective perspective will continue to evolve, and we’ll start working harder to find common ground rather than disharmony—or at least debate on a civil level. This cycle will move us and our country away from divisiveness, bringing us closer together to solve our problems with workable solutions. We don’t need to agree on everything, but we do need to listen and be tolerant of the opinions of others. This will help us find more solutions than anything else we can do.

The remarkable thing is that attitude is something we control as individuals every single day. We have a choice regarding the attitude we embrace. We cannot change the past, nor can we change how other people act or what they believe. We cannot change the inevitable. But we can change our own attitude. We are the only ones who hold that power.
We at “NO HATE NO VIOLENCE,” along with many others, are convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to us and 90 percent how we react to it. So change how you react to the world, and you might just change the world itself. Hopefully, our leaders and key influencers will listen and join us in this effort.
We offer this prayer to help shift our perspective in immediate situations and guide us toward long-term peace of mind:
SERENITY PRAYER
God (optional), grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
